MILPITAS, California: The inauguration ceremony of the Women Empowerment Telugu Association (WETA) was held at the Indian Cultural Center in Milpitas. Indian Member of Parliament Sumalatha Ambarish was the chief guest at the event and officially inaugurated the WETA September 29.
Sumalatha was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award under the auspices of the first Telugu women’s association of America in recognition of her excellence as a prominent multilingual actress, and Member of Parliament. To date there is no organization in America specifically for women. However, under the leadership of Hanumandla Jhansi Reddy, the WETA was formed.
WETA members Suguna Reddy, Sneha Vedula, Shailaja Kalluri, Hima Anamandala, Anuradha Alishetti, Rekha Leagal, Padmini Kachappi, Abhiteja Kanda, Jayashree Thelukuntla and Sadhana Sheelam were among those who participated in the event.
